Call us to register for Rugged 'R'!

For those divers who have already refined their technique in Open Water and Advanced training, Rugged 'R' is the perfect next step to continue your education. This PADI Rescue Diver Certification builds on the skills learned in your previous certifications and trains divers to maintain their calm in stressful situations, respond to emergencies, and administer diver-specific first aid. Participants will practice identifying, approaching, assisting and treating divers in a variety of underwater and surface environments, all the while increasing their own comfort and agility in the water. On completion of the course, divers will be proficient in coordinating search-and-rescue operations and responding to common diver emergencies. Finally, Rugged Rescue participants will tour the USC Hyperbaric Chamber in nearby Fisherman's cove, where they will learn firsthand about Dive medicine from the pioneering lab on the frontline of hyperbaric research and applied dive medicine. This truly rugged program will challenge experienced divers with a total immersion into the pulse-pounding world of dive saftey and rescue. Will only be available in weeks 5 and 9.The course will only run once a minimum of 4 participants has been met for each week. If this minimum has not been met for the week in which you registered, we will work with you to find an alternative or refund the cost of the program.

Rugged 'R' is a strenuous physical course that requires moderate to good cardiovascular health and strength.

Scouts should already have attained their swimming merit badge and an Advanced Open Water SCUBA Certification.  Participants must be willing to complete multiple hours of coursework prior to coming to Catalina.  Those who do not complete their studying will not be able to earn their certification.
